On May 28, Wuhu Shipyard held a kick-off meeting for the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ “14th Five-Year Plan” scientific and educational infrastructure – the deep-sea experimental vessel.
The deep-sea experimental vessel is a “14th Five-Year Plan” scientific and educational infrastructure project approved by the National Development and Reform Commission.
Designed with a gross tonnage of about 4,900 tons, it is a research vessel with outstanding features and advanced comprehensive performance, with global navigation capability, endurance of 15,000 nautical miles, economic speed of 12 knots and maximum speed of 16 knots.
The completion of the vessel will strongly support the basic research on the laws of deep-sea physical field and provide guarantee for a series of new technology and new equipment at sea comprehensive experiments, so as to seize the commanding heights of science and technology and accelerate the realization of the development of high-level science and technology.
The Institute of Acoustics (IOA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Jiangsu Branch of China Classification Society and Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC) jointly expressed their willingness to cooperate in design, construction and performance testing to jointly build a scientific research vessel for the country with outstanding distinctive capabilities, advanced comprehensive performance, excellent quality and reliability.
