On May 21, Mawei Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Corporation (Fujian Shipbuilding), successfully delivered the 227-meter offshore engineering vessel “WINDPIPER” built for Dutch Company Royal Boskalis.
With an overall length of 227 meters, a beam of 40 meters, a depth of 18.2 meters and a draught of 13.2 meters, the vessel is the world’s first super-large offshore engineering vessel with a cargo capacity exceeding 45,000 tons.
The power system with a total power of over 31,000 kilowatts and the enhanced DP2 dynamic positioning system equipped with 7 thrusters can ensure safe and accurate stationary operations in harsh sea conditions. The vessel also meets the highest international safety and environmental standards, becoming a model of green ship technology.
Upon delivery, the vessel will continue to complete the upgrading of the rock throwing system and be transformed into the world’s largest rock installation vessel, providing solid protection for offshore wind power foundations, cross-sea cables and other critical facilities. The vessel’s large cargo hold layout allows it to meet the rock transportation needs of projects in long-distance waters, including the East Coast of North America, the Baltic Sea, and the North Sea, in a single voyage, thus significantly reducing the frequency of operations and carbon emissions.
It is reported that the vessel is scheduled to be put into offshore wind projects in Northwest Europe in the first half of 2026, providing efficient solutions for scenarios such as wind turbine foundation protection and submarine cable stabilization.
It is worth mentioning that on that day, Fujian Shipbuilding also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Boskalis, and both parties will continue to maintain long-term cooperation in the field of new shipbuilding.
