On May 12th, RINA issued the AiP certificate for the “Energy Efficient MR Tanker with Alternative Fuel Ready” to K Shipbuilding in Korea.
To ensure a comprehensive and meaningful result, the AiP processes were divided into two phases: Phase I, which involved applying 4-stroke LNG/hydrogen dual-fuelled engines as propulsion, and Phase II, which focused on making the design for alternative fuel ready through a reformer technology, producing Hydrogen on board.
This new design will provide an alternative path for shipowners to meet the IMO 2050 targets most efficiently.
