Italian shipowner Marnavi has returned to China to place shipbuilding orders, according to Trade Winds.
Marnavi has announced the exercise of an option on a 13,000 dwt stainless steel chemical tanker to Zhoushan Dashenzhou Shipbuilding, expected to be delivered in the second half of 2027, at an as-yet-unannounced cost, the shipbroker said.
With this new order, Marnavi has entered into force three 13,000 dwt chemical tankers at Zhoushan Dashenzhou Shipbuilding. The first two vessels, named “Enrico Ievoli” and “Ievoli Sky”, are scheduled for delivery in November 2026 and February 2027, respectively, and the order was reported to the public in December 2024, with a cost of approximately US$30 million each. If the option vessels are built at the same cost, the total cost of the three vessels will be US$90 million (about RMB 650 million).
Backed by the Ievoli family, Marnavi currently has 34 vessels in operation, covering both tankers and offshore vessels. The company’s last order in China stopped in 2018, when it announced the entry into force of one 14,620 dwt stainless steel chemical tanker to Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group.
Recently, Zhoushan Dashenzhou Shipbuilding also announced that it has been awarded one 13,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker by Primeco Navigation Limited (originally established as Hongtong Shipping). The order was originally for 2+2 13,000 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tankers commissioned by Primeco Navigation to Taizhou Wuzhou Shipbuilding Industry, and the shipbuilding contract was signed in November 2023 between the two parties.
Zhoushan Dashenzhou Shipbuilding previously stated that the yard has been acquired by the new shareholder structure formed by Taizhou Wuzhou Shipbuilding Industry’s major shareholder Pan Xuejian since January 2024. Its operations, technology, and production would be integrated with the original team of Taizhou Wuzhou Shipbuilding Industry, and it would continue to develop products such as gas carriers and chemical carriers.
Zhoushan Dashenzhou Shipbuilding covers an area of more than 300,000 square meters and has facilities including 800 meters of deep-water coastline and 80,000-ton dry dock. The shipyard seamlessly integrates ship research, design, repair and construction capabilities, and is equipped with intelligent segmented workshops and a comprehensive digital inspection center, providing replicable domestic solutions for high-end shipbuilding.
