Beihai Shipbuilding launched two container ships

On May 16, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding (Beihai Shipbuliding) launched two 5,500 TEU container ships, which were built for CMA CGM Group of France.

It is understood that 5,500 TEU container ship project is the first new shipbuilding project between CMA CGM and Beihai Shipbuilding, and the two parties signed shipbuilding contract on April 30, 2021. The project consists of 10 container ships, and the first container ship “CMA CGM SAHARA” was delivered on February 1st this year.

The 5,500 TEU container ship is jointly designed and built by Beihai Shipbuilding and Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) for CMA CGM Group.

Classed by BV, the container ship has an overall length of 255 meters, a beam of 40 meters with a deadweight of 72,961.3 tons, making it an energy-saving, environmentally friendly, safe and efficient medium-sized container ship.
