LS Marine Solution announced on the 30th that it has signed a main contract for the construction of an underwater cable laying vessel with Tersan Shipyard in Turkey.
Through this contract, LS Marine Solution will begin the construction of a large-scale high voltage direct current (HVDC) laying vessel with a cable loading weight of 13,000 tons and a total weight of 18,800 tons. The ship will be the largest in Asia and will be equipped to lay both HVDC underwater cables and optical cables simultaneously.
The vessel is expected to enter operation in the first half of 2028 after approximately two years of construction and will operate a global turnkey contracting system that encompasses design, production, and construction in conjunction with the LS Greenlink underwater cable factory in the United States. LS Marine Solution plans to proactively respond to domestic strategic projects such as the ‘West Coast HVDC Energy Highway,’ as well as demands for offshore wind power and long-distance underwater network construction in Europe and North America with its new laying vessel.
A representative of LS Marine Solution noted, “This investment is not just about equipment acquisition, but a turning point in strengthening global power infrastructure competitiveness,” adding, “We will secure a clear leadership in the rapidly growing underwater infrastructure market, including HVDC, floating offshore wind power, and digital underwater networks.”energy.
