Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Secures Contract for Two 48,000 m³ LPG Carriers from European Shipowner

Recently, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd (CSTC), successfully secured a contract to build two 48,000-cubic-meter LPG carriers for a prominent European shipowner.

The 8,000-cubic-meter LPG carrier is a key, high-tech, and high-value-added “green” vessel developed by Huangpu Wenchong. It stands as the largest medium-sized gas carrier built in South China. Designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI), the vessel has an overall length of 190 meters and a beam of 32.2 meters. It is equipped with three independent, fully refrigerated Type A cargo tanks, constructed using advanced, well-established techniques for low-temperature carbon-manganese steel. The vessel is capable of transporting a variety of clean energy products, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquid ammonia.

Fully compliant with the latest International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations and meeting Tier III emission standards, the vessel offers a superior combination of high safety, economic efficiency, and environmental sustainability. It is exceptionally well-aligned with the global shipping industry’s transition toward a low-carbon future, making it a mainstream, medium-sized LPG carrier model that enjoys high recognition in the international market.

In recent years, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding has consistently deepened its focus on the sector for vessels powered by green, clean energy—including ammonia, methanol, LNG, and LPG. The company has continuously achieved breakthroughs in core construction technologies, refined and optimized its vessel designs, and solidified a strong international reputation for successful deliveries. Its overall competitiveness in the mid-sized gas carrier segment consistently ranks among the best in the industry, while its robust project execution capabilities and superior product quality continue to earn widespread favor among shipowners worldwide.
