Statistics from the Xiamen Customs show that in the first eight months, Fujian Province, China, exported ships to the European Union worth 4.42 billion yuan (approximately $659 million at the current exchange rate). The province ranked third nationwide in export value, with a significant year-over-year increase of 1.5 times, maintaining double-digit positive growth for eight consecutive months.
Bulk carriers are Fujian Province’s flagship shipbuilding export to the European Union. In the first eight months, Fujian Province exported bulk carriers to the EU worth 2.17 billion yuan (approximately $324 million), a twofold increase from the same period last year. During the same period, Fujian Province exported liquid cargo carriers to the EU worth 1.71 billion yuan (approximately $255 million) and roll-on/roll-off (RO-RO) ships worth 540 million yuan (approximately $81 million).
By country, Fujian Province saw a significant increase in the value of ship exports to Malta. According to statistics, in the first eight months, Fujian Province exported ships worth 2.61 billion yuan (approximately $389 million) to Malta, a 4.4-fold surge compared with the same period last year. In addition, Fujian Province’s ship exports to Greece showed impressive growth, totaling 540 million yuan (approximately $81 million) in the first eight months, a 1.3-fold increase year-over-year.
Data indicates that state-owned shipbuilding enterprises maintain a solid dominant position. In the first eight months of the year, state-owned enterprises in Fujian Province exported ships worth 4.19 billion yuan (approximately $625 million) to the European Union, a year-on-year increase of 140%. During the same period, private enterprises exported ships to the EU valued at 230 million yuan (approximately $34 million), marking explosive year-on-year growth of 26.8-fold.
