China’s Second Domestically Built Large Cruise Ship “Adora Flora City” Delivered

On November 6, the second large cruise ship built in China, the “Adora Flora City,” was officially delivered at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). With this, China’s domestically produced cruise ships have officially entered the “era of two ships.”

With a length of 341 meters and a gross tonnage of 141,900, the “Adora Flora City” features 2,130 guest rooms and suites and can accommodate 5,232 guests at full capacity. The ship is equipped with a variety of distinctive restaurants and bars, as well as a grand theater, shopping center, art gallery, fitness center, spa, and kids’ club—a wealth of facilities designed to fully meet the vacation needs of guests of all ages. As the sister ship to the “Adora Magic City,” the “Adora Flora City” features comprehensive upgrades in spatial design, smart technology, and the overall cruise experience.

On November 6, 2018, at the first China International Import Expo, CSSC signed contracts with Carnival Corporation and Fincantieri to build two 135,000 GT Vista-class large cruise ships. One year later, construction began on “Adora Magic City,” China’s first domestically built large cruise ship.

Building on the experience gained from the first ship “Adora Magic City,” the “Adora Flora City” represents an iterative upgrade. It features a larger hull and more advanced facilities: its gross tonnage has increased by 0.64 million tons to 14.19 million tons, and its overall length has increased by 17.4 meters to 341 meters; the beam is 37.2 meters, the design draft is 8.17 meters, the maximum draft is 8.4 meters, and the maximum speed is 22.7 knots. It features 2,130 cabins and can accommodate up to 5,232 passengers; two new desulfurization systems and five selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems have been installed, making the ship’s operation more environmentally friendly.

In addition, the domestic supply rate for “Adora Flora City” has increased by approximately 5% compared to the first vessel, reaching about 35 percent. The ship has achieved full domestic sourcing for bulk materials, and key engineering packages—including balconies, upholstery, and lift-and-lower entertainment systems—have been successfully replaced with domestically produced alternatives.

According to reports, following delivery, the “Adora Flora City” will proceed as scheduled with trial voyages and all preparatory work ahead of its maiden voyage. It is scheduled to arrive at the Guangzhou Nansha International Cruise Terminal on November 12 and begin its maiden voyage season from Guangzhou on November 22.
