Guohang Ocean Shipping to Build Three Multi-Purpose Heavy-Lift Vessels and Three LR2 Tankers

Recently, Guohang Ocean Shipping released the draft prospectus for its 2026 targeted issuance of shares to specific investors. The company plans to issue shares to specific investors, with total fundraising not exceeding RMB 700 million (approximately US$104 million at current exchange rates). After deducting issuance expenses, the proceeds are intended to be used entirely for ship acquisition projects and supplementing working capital, with proposed investments of RMB 680 million and RMB 20 million, respectively.

According to the draft proposal, the total investment for Guohang Ocean Shipping’s vessel acquisition project is approximately RMB 2.49 billion (equivalent to about US$372 million at current exchange rates), with RMB 680 million in raised funds earmarked for the initiative. The project involves the construction of three 62,000-deadweight-tonne (DWT) multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels and three 115,000-DWT LR2 oil tankers, aimed at optimizing the company’s fleet structure and increasing its owned vessel capacity.

The project has an estimated construction period of two years, with key work stages including preliminary preparation, vessel design, construction, quality inspection, final acceptance, and sea trials.

Guohang Ocean Shipping has stated that the multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels and LR2 tankers it plans to acquire are both low-carbon, eco-friendly vessels. Featuring streamlined hulls and lightweight structural designs—complemented by high-efficiency propulsion and integrated energy-saving systems—these vessels offer significantly better energy efficiency and lower pollutant emissions compared to older ships currently in service. Additionally, they are equipped with smart navigation and real-time energy monitoring systems, enabling digital management of operations and equipment maintenance while fully complying with international environmental standards.

The simultaneous acquisition of multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels and LR2 oil tankers comprehensively addresses gaps in Guohang Ocean Shipping’s existing fleet structure and business capabilities. The multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels fill the void in specialized heavy-cargo transport, providing differentiated capacity for specialized logistics; meanwhile, the LR2 oil tankers strengthen the company’s presence in the liquid energy transport sector, enhancing its cross-border oil transport capabilities and diversifying its ocean-going cargo portfolio.

Guohang Ocean Shipping is primarily engaged in dry bulk shipping across international deep-sea, domestic coastal, and middle-to-lower Yangtze River routes, ranking among China’s major dry bulk shipping enterprises.

With over two decades of development, the company has established a business structure centered on shipping, complemented by related operations such as ship management and commodity trading. It operates a fleet of 22 self-owned dry bulk vessels with a total capacity of 1.7074 million deadweight tons (DWT), placing it among the industry leaders in terms of capacity scale within China’s dry bulk shipping sector.
