Shipping broker Banchero Costa reports that Columbia Shipmanagement has placed an order with Chinese shipbuilder CSSC Chengxi Shipyard for four 50,000 DWT MR product tankers. The first vessel is priced at approximately $45 million, while the remaining three are priced at approximately $42 million each. The total cost of the four new vessels is approximately $171 million, and they are expected to be built and delivered between 2029 and 2030.
Recently, during the 32nd SMM Hamburg maritime trade fair, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard signed a contract with the Cyprus-based shipowner Schoeller Holdings for four MR2 product tankers.
In the bulk carrier sector, CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Company Limited announced on September 1 that it would build ten 80,000 DWT bulk carriers at CSSC Chengxi Shipyard. The total construction cost is RMB 3.235 billion, with deliveries scheduled for September 30, 2029, and December 31, 2030. CSSC Guangxi Shipbuilding is one of the builders for this batch of vessels, sharing responsibility with CSSC Chengxi Shipyard for their design, construction, and delivery.
It is understood that CSSC Chengxi Shipyard is a key shipbuilding enterprise under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and a core player in Jiangsu Province’s shipbuilding and marine engineering industry. It operates three production bases: its headquarters in Jiangyin, CSSC Chengxi (Taizhou) Equipment Technology Co., Ltd., and CSSC Chengxi Yangzhou Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (focusing primarily on ship construction). Since the beginning of this year, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard has publicly announced more than 30 newbuilding orders.
