On July 30, Guangzhou Shipyard International, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), held a steel-cutting ceremony for the second vessel in a series of 10,800 CEU dual-fuel pure car and track carriers (PCTCs) being built for South Korea’s GLOVIS Shipping, a subsidiary of Hyundai Logistics.
Developed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute, the vessel is 230 meters long, 40 meters wide, and has a structural draft of 10.5 meters. It utilizes LNG/fuel oil dual-fuel propulsion technology and is equipped with both shaft generators and a solar photovoltaic power generation system. This design balances environmental protection with high efficiency while meeting the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emissions standards.
The vessel’s 14-deck automotive deck design (including 5 movable decks) allows for flexible loading of diverse cargo, such as electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks. Its maximum vehicle capacity reaches 10,800 units, which, if lined up end-to-end, would stretch over 50 kilometers. Additionally, the vessel is equipped with 16 sets of hydraulically powered movable ramps and 2 hydraulic movable decks, significantly enhancing loading efficiency and stability to meet global automotive trade demands.
Construction of the first vessel in this series began on June 23. To date, Guangzhou Shipyard International has received orders for more than 40 PCTCs, 14 of which are 10,800 CEU dual-fuel PCTCs.
