On July 17, Nanjing Tanker Corporation announced that its board of directors had approved an investment of up to $182.8 million by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Nanjing Oil Tanker (Singapore) Co., Ltd., or a party designated by it, to build four new 50,000 DWT energy-efficient MR oil/chemical tankers flying a flag of convenience at Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd.

According to the announcement, the new vessels comply with Tier III emission standards, meet the Phase III requirements for the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), and feature a design that allows for future conversion to methanol dual-fuel operation. The four vessels are expected to be delivered sequentially between 2028 and 2029.
Earlier reports indicated that last month, last month, Nanjing Tanker Corporation issued a public tender for four 50,000 DWT MR oil and chemical tankers. Nanjing Tanker Corporation stated that this move was intended to optimize the capacity structure of the company’s refined oil tanker fleet, improve the fleet’s operational capabilities, enhance the company’s competitiveness in the refined oil transportation market, and further strengthen the company’s capacity for sustainable development.
On July 13, Guangzhou Shipyard International successfully launched the keel for the fourth 49,900 DWT chemical/refined oil tanker being built for Nanjing Tanker Corporation. It is understood that the partnership between Guangzhou Shipyard International and Nanjing Tanker Corporation began in 2010 with the construction and delivery of the 320,000 DWT Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) “Kaigui” and “Kaiyue”. To date, Guangzhou Shipyard International has delivered a total of 12 50,000 DWT MR oil tankers across three types to Nanjing Tanker Corporation.
