On September 2, China CSSC Holdings Limited (CSSC) announced a major contract, stating that its majority-owned subsidiary, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), signed an agreement on September 1, 2026, with a renowned international shipowner for the construction of ten 8,200 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTCs (Pure Car and Truck Carriers).

According to the announcement, the total contract value for this batch of new vessels exceeds US$1 billion. Delivery is scheduled between 2029 and 2031. Under the agreement between Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) and the shipowner, the disclosure of the shipowner’s identity has been waived.
CSSC stated that this project fully leverages GSI’s strengths in core areas—such as the design, R&D, final assembly, construction, and quality control of high-capacity Ro-Ro vessels—thereby further solidifying the company’s market position and brand influence within the car carrier segment.

GSI previously disclosed that, since the beginning of the year, it has secured orders for over 40 car carriers and successfully built and delivered 26 vessels, including 7,000-vehicle and 8,600-vehicle capacity ships, as well as 10,800-vehicle capacity LNG dual-fuel PCTCs.
It is worth noting that in late April of this year, GSI successfully delivered the world’s first dual-fuel PCTC with a capacity of 10,800 vehicles—built for South Korea’s HMM. This achievement not only filled a gap in the market for high-end PCTCs of this capacity but also marked GSI’s successful entry into the global top tier in the field of ultra-large dual-fuel Ro-Ro vessels.
