On July 3, Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. (Nantong Xiangyu SOE) successfully named and delivered its 100th Ultramax bulk carrier, the “Yuanhai Songtao”. The delivery was completed two months ahead of the contractual schedule, marking a new milestone for Nantong Xiangyu SOE in the construction of its flagship products.

The “Yuanhai Songtao” is equipped with a high-pressure selective catalytic reduction (HP-SCR) nitrogen oxide reduction system and a dual-fuel supply system capable of running on both low-sulfur heavy fuel oil and light fuel oil. All of its emission indicators fully comply with the latest environmental regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Additionally, the vessel has been designed with provisions for methanol dual-fuel retrofitting and has obtained methanol READY certification, making it well-suited to meet future shipping demands. The vessel will be registered in Yangpu Port, China, and will play a significant role in supporting the development of the modern shipping industry in the Hainan Free Trade Port.
It is reported that the “Jixiang” series Ultramax 63,800 DWT bulk carriers delivered this time are eco-friendly bulk carriers independently optimized and upgraded by Nantong Xiangyu SOE. To date, Nantong Xiangyu SOE has received a cumulative total of 168 vessels from 38 shipowners across 10 countries and regions. Nantong Xiangyu SOE’s order book for Ultramax bulk carriers consistently ranks among the top globally.
Nantong Xiangyu SOE stated that over the course of seven years, from the first vessel to the 100th, the construction cycle per vessel was reduced from 15.5 months to less than seven months, representing an efficiency increase of over 100%.
Nantong Xiangyu SOE has now established a production layout comprising “two shipyards and four bases,” with an annual shipbuilding capacity exceeding 3 million deadweight tonnages. Its product portfolio includes a wide range of high-end ocean-going specialty vessels, such as energy-efficient and environmentally friendly bulk carriers, dual-fuel stainless steel chemical tankers, offshore wind turbine installation vessels, and semi-submersibles. To date, Nantong Xiangyu SOE has a backlog of 132 vessels, with a total order value exceeding 30 billion yuan, and its delivery schedule is already booked through 2030.
