Nantong Xiangyu SOE Lands Four 63,800 DWT Bulk Carrier Newbuild Order from Bangladesh’s AKIJ RESOURCE GROUP

On June 24, Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. (Nantong Xiangyu SOE) signed a contract with AKIJ RESOURCE GROUP, a well-known Bangladeshi company, to build four 63,800 DWT bulk carriers.

Nantong Xiangyu SOE stated that this large order demonstrates the overseas client’s high recognition of its construction capabilities, product quality, and contract fulfillment ability. It will further expand its South Asian overseas market, enrich its order backlog, and inject strong momentum into the company’s continued steady development.

This order marks the second shipbuilding contract announced by Nantong Xiangyu SOE in June; the other was placed by Fujian Shipping Group for four 62,000 DWT multi-purpose vessels.

Since the beginning of the year, Nantong Xiangyu SOE has secured multiple new shipbuilding orders, winning projects worth over RMB 4 billion in the first quarter alone. The vessel types include 210,000 DWT bulk carriers, 4,300 TEU container ships, and 63,500 DWT bulk carriers. According to incomplete data, the company signed contracts in April with Shanghai Times Shipping for one 63,800 DWT bulk carrier and two 82,000 DWT bulk carriers, and in May with Switzerland’s Mercuria Energy for two 211,000 DWT bulk carriers.

Currently, Nantong Xiangyu SOE focuses primarily on eco-friendly, energy-efficient bulk carriers, oil tankers, and container ships under 100,000 DWT, as well as small-to-medium-sized stainless steel or specially coated chemical tankers and other engineering vessels. Furthermore, the company is set to officially enter the Newcastlemax bulk carrier construction market in 2025 by undertaking a new shipbuilding project for the Japanese shipowner Dounan Kisen.
