On June 17, Zhejiang Provincial Transportation Investment Group Co., Ltd. announced the results of a tender for the construction of two 64,000 DWT bulk carriers. According to the announcement, New Dayang Shipyard was awarded the contract at a price of 519.6 million yuan (approximately $77 million). Based on this figure, the construction cost per vessel is approximately 259.8 million yuan. The vessels are expected to be delivered by March 31, 2030, and June 30, 2030, respectively.

According to the tender notice, this project involves the design, materials, equipment, and construction and delivery of two 64,000 DWT bulk carriers. The vessels are steel-hulled, single-hull, single-deck, single-screw, diesel-powered bulk carriers intended for international voyages and suitable for carrying coal, iron ore, bulk and bagged grain, steel coils, and other dry cargo.
As a subsidiary of Sumec Marine, part of SUMEC Group Corporation (SUMEC), New Dayang Shipyard has seen its order backlog continue to rise in recent years, with delivery schedules extending through 2029, and plans to deliver 30 vessels in 2026.
So far this year, New Dayang Shipyard has secured orders for more than ten new bulk carriers in the bulk carrier market, ranging in size from 63,500 to 82,000 deadweight tons, with orders placed by both domestic and international shipowners. In April and May, New Dayang Shipyard secured orders for a total of six 62,500 DWT multi-purpose vessels. The shipbuilder views this batch of newbuilds as a key order that breaks the limitations of conventional ship types and paves the way for high-value-added vessel designs. Additionally, Shangang Offshore Engineering and New Dayang Shipyard jointly won a bid for one 1,100-TEU feeder container ship.
