On June 12, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), held a naming ceremony for the first two vessels in a series of 49,500 DWT chemical/product tankers built for the renowned German shipping company LEONHARDT & BLUMBERG (L&B). The first vessel was signed over and delivered on the same day.

The two vessels were named the “HANSA GUANGZHOU” and the “HANSA GENOA.”
GSI stated that this series of vessels represents the company’s 15th-generation MR tanker, independently developed by GSI. With a total length of 183 meters, a beam of 32 meters, and a structural draft of 13.3 meters, the vessels have a deadweight tonnage of approximately 49,500 tons and a service speed of 14.5 knots.
The vessels are designed for methanol dual-fuel propulsion and are equipped with open-loop desulfurization systems. Their emissions meet the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III standards, and their Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) complies with Phase 3 requirements. Featuring high speed, light deadweight, low energy consumption, and strong adaptability, these vessels have achieved world-leading levels in energy efficiency, environmental performance, and reliability among vessels of their class, and are well-suited to the standards of the global high-end liquid cargo transport market.
