GTT receives an order from Hanwha Ocean for the tank design of one new LNG Carrier

French company GTT recently announced that it has signed a contract with South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean to design the liquid cargo tanks for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier ordered by a European shipowner.

Under the contract, the LNG carrier will have a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. GTT is responsible for the liquid cargo tank design, and the vessel will be equipped with GTT’s proprietary NO96 Super+ membrane containment system. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2029.

So far this year, Hanwha Ocean has announced six LNG carriers, with orders of two vessels each from Greece’s Alpha Gas, Greece’s Maran Gas Maritime, and Norway’s Knutsen OAS Shipping.

In terms of new orders, as of May 29, Hanwha Ocean has secured 20 new ship orders this year, valued at $3.7 billion, including 10 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), 6 LNG carriers, 3 Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs), and 1 wind turbine installation vessel.
