CSC Wuhan Qingshan Shipyard Co., Ltd. has completed several changes to its business information, including its company name and licensed business scope. It has also completed its first ship section hoisting operation after successfully resuming shipbuilding business, marking a key step in the recovery of the shipyard’s production capacity.

On May 7, 2026, CSC Wuhan Qingshan Shipyard Co., Ltd. was officially renamed China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Group Wuhan Qingshan Shipyard Co., Ltd. Following the change in its business scope, the company now offers a broader range of services, including licensed activities such as shipbuilding and ship repair.
As shown in the system, on March 26, 2026, the shipyard completed changes to its investor and market entity type:Its shareholder was changed from China Changjiang National Shipping Group Co., Ltd. to China Merchants Offshore Investment (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.;Its market entity type was adjusted from Limited Liability Company (wholly owned by a legal person not invested or controlled by natural persons) to Limited Liability Company (wholly owned by a foreign-invested enterprise legal person).

Founded in the 1950s, Qingshan Shipyard was once the largest civilian shipbuilding plant in Hubei Province, having built a total of 630 ships (including 218 exported ships). Covering an area of 1,700 mu (approximately 113 hectares) with a 2,200-meter-long wharf, Qingshan Shipyard possesses comprehensive capabilities in designing and manufacturing various types of ships, including bulk carriers, container ships, chemical tankers, and liquefied gas carriers, all under 100,000 deadweight tons.
At the end of 2015, as part of Sinotrans & CSC Holdings Co., Ltd., Qingshan Shipyard was integrated into China Merchants Group. In November 2017, during the restructuring and integration of China Merchants Group and Sinotrans & CSC Holdings Co., Ltd., the former “China Yangtze Shipping Group Qingshan Shipyard” was officially renamed “CSC Wuhan Qingshan Shipyard Co., Ltd.” After this restructuring, Qingshan Shipyard became a third-tier unit of China Merchants Group, directly subordinate to the newly established Changjiang Shipping Group.
In April 2018, after completing the delivery of its last export bulk carrier order, Qingshan Shipyard announced its withdrawal from the shipbuilding business, ending its 69-year shipbuilding history, and transforming into steel structure manufacturing, ship repair and conversion and other fields.
In October 2024, after a six-year hiatus, Qingshan Shipyard announced plans to resume shipbuilding operations.
In February 2026, Xu Lian, Party Secretary and General Manager of Qingshan Shipyard, revealed that the shipyard would focus on the construction of small and medium-sized high-value-added vessels while simultaneously advancing the development of a “garden-style factory.” The shipyard is expected to fully resume its core shipbuilding operations in 2026.
In April 2026, Qingshan Shipyard signed a contract with Zhonggu Logistics for 10 1,800-TEU container ships. This marks the shipyard’s first major order since joining China Merchants Shipbuilding, with a total contract value not exceeding 2.7 billion yuan. Delivery is expected between 2028 and 2029.
In May 2026, a 15,000-ton multi-purpose vessel under construction at China Merchants Shipbuilding Qingshan Shipyard was laid keel. This milestone marked a critical juncture in the shipyard’s resumption of operations and signaled that Qingshan Shipyard is steadily advancing the restart of production capacity and its transformation and upgrading.
With the full resumption of shipbuilding operations, the 700 million yuan high-tech green ship intelligent manufacturing capacity enhancement project at China Merchants Shipbuilding Qingshan Shipyard has been officially approved. The project will upgrade production facilities, construct new smart workshops and public support facilities, advance digital infrastructure, replace key equipment, improve employee welfare facilities such as dining and accommodation, renovate production buildings to eliminate safety hazards, and establish environmental protection and safety systems to fully comply with current regulatory requirements.
Covering an area of 1,700 mu with 2,200 meters of wharf line, China Merchants Shipbuilding Qingshan Shipyard possesses comprehensive capabilities to design and manufacture various types of vessels, including bulk carriers, container ships, chemical tankers, and liquefied gas carriers, with a deadweight tonnage of up to 100,000 tons.
