On May 13, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), a subsidiary of HD Hyundai, announced that it had signed a contract with a North American shipowner to build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. The total order value is 748.5 billion won (approximately US$508 million), with a cost of approximately US$254 million per vessel.

The new vessels will be built by HD Hyundai Samho and are expected to be delivered in the second half of 2029. With the latest orders, HD KSOE has secured orders for 96 new ships this year, worth US$11.32 billion, achieving 48.6% of its annual order target of US$23.31 billion.

Based on the type of vessel ordered, the fleet includes 14 LNG carriers, 26 container ships, 20 LPG/ammonia carriers, 7 crude oil carriers, 26 product tankers, 2 car carriers, and 1 icebreaker.
