Baku Shipyard Inks Cooperation Deal with KTZ Express Shipping to Build Two Dry Cargo Vessels

An agreement on cooperation in the field of shipbuilding was signed between ‘Baku Shipyard’ LLC, a subsidiary of AZCON Holding, and ‘KTZ Express Shipping’, a member of the ‘Samruk-Kazyna’ JSC group of companies. According to the agreement, the construction of two dry cargo vessels in compliance with modern international standards will be carried out.

This dry cargo vessel has an overall length of 140.97 meters, a beam of 16.9 meters, and a draft of 6.8 meters. It is powered by two 1,600-kilowatt main engines and has a speed of approximately 11 knots. Delivery is expected within 28 months of the signing of the construction contract. The new vessel is designed for river-sea direct service: its deadweight tonnage is approximately 9,900 tons for ocean voyages, with a capacity of 537 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs); for inland river voyages, its deadweight tonnage is approximately 5,057 tons, with a capacity of 433 TEUs.

This cooperation is of particular relevance at a time when freight traffic along the Middle Corridor is increasing. Against the backdrop of increasing international orders, the project will not only accelerate the development of the local shipbuilding industry but also serve to increase the Shipyard’s production capacity and strengthen its competitiveness.

Thus, the number of vessels under construction for international orders has reached 4, serving as a clear indicator of the Shipyard’s growing prestige in the international market and its position as a reliable partner.

According to its official website, Baku Shipyard was established in the 2010s with a total investment of nearly $500 million. It is capable of building a wide range of vessel types, including offshore support vessels, bulk carriers, tugs, crane ships, special-purpose vessels, passenger ships, and oil tankers, and can also undertake repair and refit projects for these vessels. To date, the shipyard has built and delivered 12 vessels with a total value of approximately $628 million and has repaired over 200 vessels belonging to Azerbaijan and other Caspian Sea nations.
