COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) Delivers Eighth 154K DWT Shuttle Tanker “JANEIRO KNUTSEN” to KNOT

On May 6, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) signed and delivered the eighth 154,000 DWT shuttle tanker “JANEIRO KNUTSEN” built for the Norwegian company KNOT. The previous seven vessels of the same class have already been delivered and are in operation worldwide, with excellent operational performance.

The “JANEIRO KNUTSEN” is a new-generation 154,000 DWT shuttle tanker independently developed and designed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry. The vessel has an overall length of 279 meters, a beam of 48 meters, a draft of 23.8 meters, and a design draft of 16 meters. It is classified by DNV of Norway.

The vessel is equipped with an advanced DP2 dynamic positioning system and a bow loading system to accommodate complex offshore crude oil loading and unloading operations; its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets the highest standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Phase 3. Crucially, the vessel features an innovative propulsion system that combines a medium-voltage closed-loop busbar with variable-frequency drive propellers, effectively optimizing power plant management, reducing operational energy consumption, and highlighting its technological advancement.

The partnership between COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) and the Norwegian company KNOT began in 2012 and has now spanned 14 years.

Based on the long-term friendly cooperative relationship between the two parties, in March 2026, KNOT placed an additional order with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) for a 154,000 DWT shuttle tanker, increasing the number of vessels jointly built by the two parties to 14.
