GTT Wins Order from Hudong-Zhonghua to Design Tanks for Five New LNGCs for MISC

GTT announces that it has received, in the second quarter of 2026, an order from the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding shipyard for the tank design of five new Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers (LNGCs) on behalf of MISC Berhad, the ship-owner.

GTT will design the cryogenic tanks of the vessels, which will each offer a total capacity of 174,000 m³. The tanks will be fitted with the NO96 Super+ membrane containment system developed by GTT.

Delivery of the vessels is expected between 2029 and 2030.

It is reported that on January 30th of this year, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and Malaysia’s MISC Berhad signed an order for the first batch of 3+3 LNG carriers. On February 27th, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and MISC Berhad officially signed a second contract for the construction of 2+2 174,000 m³ LNG carriers. With this, the total order size between the two parties has officially increased to 5+5 vessels.

This 174,000 m³ LNG carrier is a flagship type of the fifth-generation “Changheng Series” independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua. It offers outstanding advantages such as safety, reliability, environmental friendliness, high efficiency, and excellent economic performance. With over 20 core technologies developed entirely in-house, the vessel has achieved world-leading standards in key performance areas including energy efficiency, environmental protection metrics, cargo storage, and operational economics.
