Subsea Integration Alliance (SIA) has been awarded a front end engineering design (FEED) contract by Equinor for the Bay du Nord development offshore Canada – one of the most significant deepwater projects ever proposed for Newfoundland and Labrador.

Bay du Nord represents a new chapter for Canada’s offshore industry in scale and technical ambition. The FEED award marks a critical transition in the project’s evolution, moving from concept definition into detailed engineering that will shape the development ahead of final investment decision (FID) and support long-term value for the local offshore sector.
SIA is the strategic global alliance between Subsea7 and SLB OneSubsea combining deepwater subsea engineering, production systems and integrated delivery expertise. The FEED contract builds on the long-term strategic collaboration agreement signed with Equinor in 2024, which enabled early joint concept studies for Bay du Nord and other complex subsea developments. That early engagement has been central to simplifying the development concept and establishing a technically and commercially robust basis for FEED, with regional experience embedded throughout.
During FEED, SIA will work in close collaboration with Equinor and the wider supply chain to mature the subsea architecture, optimise execution strategies and align engineering, procurement and delivery decisions. This integrated approach is designed to reduce complexity, improve schedule and cost certainty, and ensure Bay du Nord is positioned for efficient execution as the project advances towards FID.
Olivier Blaringhem, Chief Executive Officer of Subsea Integration Alliance, said: “Bay du Nord is a landmark deepwater project for Equinor and for the Canadian offshore industry. Entering FEED is a decisive moment, where early engineering choices have a lasting impact on project value and executability. Through SIA, we bring together the combined strengths of Subsea7 and SLB OneSubsea to shape the development as an integrated system – reducing interfaces, simplifying delivery and enabling informed decisions ahead of final investment decision. This FEED award reflects Equinor’s confidence in our collaborative model and our ability to support projects of this scale and complexity while building local capability for the long-term.”
Hani El Kurd, Senior Vice President, UK and Global Inspection, Repair and Maintenance, Subsea7, added: “Bay du Nord is a defining project for Newfoundland and Labrador and a significant opportunity for the Canadian offshore supply chain. Subsea7 has been active in the region for nearly two decades, with deep engineering capability and an established operational presence in St John’s. Through this FEED scope, we will draw on that local experience and continue building regional capability, to deliver a project that is safe, efficient and built for long-term value and performance.”
