China Launches First Ultra-Large Dredger with Distributed In-Hull Mud Pump

Recently, the “Xin Hai Jing 1”, China’s first ultra-large trailing suction hopper dredger featuring a distributed in-hull mud pump, was successfully launched. The vessel was invested in by Shanghai Dredging Bureau, with the project contracted by the Communications Construction Company(CCCC)Dredging National Engineering Research Center and constructed by Zhenhua Heavy Industries. This milestone marks a new peak in China’s independent research and development of ultra-large, intelligent dredging equipment and adds another significant asset to the “CCCC Super Fleet”.

In the future, the vessel will undertake major engineering tasks, including deep-sea sand extraction, dredging of deep-water port channels, land reclamation, and coastal maintenance. Its deployment will further solidify the equipment foundation for China’s maritime power strategy.

The successful launch of the “Xin Hai Jing 1” further enhances China’s high-end dredging equipment matrix and will help improve capabilities in deep-water channel construction, deep-sea resource development, and marine engineering support. This masterpiece, embodying advanced technology and manufacturing strength, is set to provide new momentum for accelerating the construction of a modern dredging industry system, promoting the global expansion of Chinese dredging technology and equipment, and serving the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
