HD KSOE Secures $550M Order for 10 Container Ships from Asian Shipowner

On March 16, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE)—the intermediate shipbuilding holding company under HD Hyundai—announced that it had signed a contract with an Asian shipowner to build 10 container ships. The total value of the order is 823.7 billion won (approximately $550 million), bringing the cost per vessel to approximately $55 million.

This batch of container ships will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and is expected to be delivered in the second half of 2028.

In March, HD KSOE announced four shipbuilding contracts totaling nearly US$2 billion, covering mainstream vessel types such as gas carriers, tankers, and container ships—specifically, four LNG carriers, two Suezmax tankers, two LPG/ammonia carriers, and ten container ships.

Including its latest orders, HD KSOE has secured new shipbuilding orders for 43 vessels—valued at $5.34 billion—so far this year, achieving 22.9% of its annual order target of $23.31 billion.

By vessel type, the fleet includes 10 LNG carriers, 20 container ships, 5 LPG/ammonia carriers, 6 crude oil tankers, and 2 product tankers.
