On February 25, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Guangzhou Shipyard International, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), successfully laid keel for the second 10,800 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTC constructed for South Korea’s Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM).

It is understood that this vessel type was jointly developed by Guangzhou Shipyard International and Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI). As one of the world’s largest PCTCs with a capacity of 10,800 vehicles, it features a dual-fuel LNG/fuel oil propulsion system, new engines, and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. Strictly meeting Tier III emission standards, it achieves over 30% carbon reduction compared to traditional fuel vessels.
The vessel also incorporates pre-installed interfaces for ammonia and methanol fuels, providing robust support for green upgrades throughout its lifecycle. Its optimized compartment layout and deck design offer flexible adaptability for electric vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, and diverse roll-on cargo. With a maximum single-item load capacity of 250 tons, it comprehensively empowers the diverse demands of global automotive trade.
Simultaneously, this vessel represents another efficient milestone for Guangzhou Shipyard International in lean management and process innovation following the keel-laying of the series’ first vessel. As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of PCTCs, Guangzhou Shipyard International has secured orders for 39 such vessels. Through intelligent production lines and optimized sectional construction processes, the shipbuilder continues to shorten dock assembly cycles, leveraging Chinese smart manufacturing to enhance global automotive shipping capacity.
