Samsung Heavy Industries Wins $254M LNG Carrier Order from Oceania Shipowner

On February 20, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it had signed a contract with an Oceania shipowner to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier worth 368 billion won (approximately US$254 million), with delivery expected to be made to the shipowner by May 2028.

Including the latest order, Samsung Heavy Industries has secured orders for eight new vessels this year, worth $1.9 billion (including an additional $400 million from previous contracts for offshore engineering equipment), achieving 14% of its annual order target of $13.9 billion.

Classified by vessel type, it includes 3 LNG carriers, 2 ethane carriers, 2 container ships and 1 crude oil carrier.

A Samsung Heavy Industries representative stated, “The order momentum for LNG carriers has remained strong since the beginning of 2026… We plan to continue our strategy of selectively undertaking contracts with a focus on high-value-added vessels.”
