Wuhu Shipyard Secures Contracts for 6 New Vessels with Shanghai Leading Energy Shipping and India’s JSW Group

On February 11, Wuhu Shipyard signed a contract with Shanghai Leading Energy Shipping to build two 82,000 DWT bulk carriers and with India’s JSW Group to build four 8,000 DWT general cargo ships.

The two 82,000 DWT bulk carriers will fly the Chinese flag, be classed by the China Classification Society, fully meet the latest international environmental standards, and be equipped with high-efficiency and energy-saving hull lines, green power technology and intelligent energy efficiency management system, and have reserved technical interfaces for zero-carbon power conversion.

This marks the first collaboration between Wuhu Shipyard and Shanghai Leading Energy Shipping, signifying the formal establishment of their strategic partnership.

Shanghai Leading Energy Shipping, a wholly-owned shipping company of China Huaneng Group, focuses on ensuring energy logistics and coal supply for power plants along the Yangtze River and the coast, serving as a key shipping backbone in the national energy supply system. Wuhu Shipyard will leverage its benchmark-level quality to help the client optimize its fleet structure, enhance its energy supply capabilities, and jointly embark on a new journey of green shipping.

Wuhu Shipyard and India’s JSW Group have signed an order for four more 8,000 DWT general cargo ships, marking their fourth collaboration following the successful delivery of ten bulk carriers. Previously, the ten bulk carriers delivered by Wuhu Shipyard earned high praise and trust from the shipowner for their efficient construction schedule and superior ship quality.

The vessel signed this time has an overall length of 122 meters, a beam of 20 meters. The entire vessel is designed with a double bottom structure, uses a conventional propulsion system, is diesel-powered, has twin engines and twin propellers, is equipped with a twin-rudder system, has two cargo holds, hydraulically folding hatch covers, and is classed by Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). It is suitable for transporting bulk cargo in the coastal waters of India, boasts outstanding economic performance, and is flexible and efficient in operation. It will further optimize the JSW Group’s fleet configuration and improve global logistics operational efficiency.

As a leading industrial giant in India and a globally renowned shipowner, JSW Group’s continuous repurchase of the same ship type is the best proof of Wuhu Shipyard’s technical strength, construction quality, and contract performance reputation.

A few days before announcing the order for the aforementioned six new vessels of two types, Wuhu Shipyard announced that its revenue, profit and output value would all achieve double-digit growth by 2025, with output value exceeding RMB 10 billion two years ahead of schedule, successfully laying out a “second growth curve” and building a diversified industrial chain.
