Recently, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), won the bid from AET, a tanker company under the Malaysian MISC Group, for a Suezmax dynamic positioning shuttle tanker project tendered globally by a well-known European energy company. The parties have successfully signed the construction contract.

This successful bid demonstrates DSIC’s competitiveness in international bidding projects and marks a new stage in the strategic cooperation between DSIC and AET in the field of high-end tanker construction, jointly promoting green shipping technology into a new phase.
This project is a high-end, energy-efficient vessel jointly developed by DSIC and AET, based on the global shipping industry’s green and low-carbon trends and the actual needs of maritime oil transportation. The vessel integrates cutting-edge DP2-class closed-loop power distribution and dynamic positioning technology with green and intelligent systems such as energy storage batteries, ethanol fuel reserves, and intelligent energy efficiency management. Simultaneously, the vessel achieves breakthrough upgrades in deep-sea operation safety redundancy design, low-carbon operational efficiency enhancement, and intelligent energy efficiency management, precisely meeting the upgraded requirements of Brazilian waters for a new generation of shuttle tankers in terms of environmental protection, safety, and intelligence.
Looking back on the cooperation, the two parties signed a contract in 2024 to build the world’s first 110,000-ton class liquid ammonia dual-fuel powered oil tanker. This vessel type features groundbreaking environmental protection technology and reliable ship performance, fully demonstrating the strong capabilities of both parties in ship research and development, construction and operation, and laying a solid foundation for cooperation and mutual trust.
From liquid ammonia dual fuel to energy storage battery systems, from single-point innovation to full-chain green solutions, the collaboration between DSIC and AET has consistently led the green transformation of the shipping industry and demonstrated to the world the innovative strength and sense of responsibility of Chinese shipbuilders in green shipping technology.
Notably, by the end of 2025, AET awarded a shipbuilding contract to South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for two LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers, a move that also forms part of its dual-fuel fleet expansion strategy.
DSIC stated that this successful signing is a vivid example of its commitment to the philosophy of marketing leading technology development and technology development supporting marketing order taking, achieving a deep integration and mutual promotion of market expansion and technological innovation. In the future, DSIC will continue to focus on the development of green and intelligent ships, fully leveraging its technological advantages in the research and construction of high-end oil tankers, and going all out to create high-quality vessels.
