China’s Shipbuilding Industry Leads World in Three Core Indicators for 16 Consecutive Years by 2025

CCTV News reports that on February 1, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the latest data on China’s shipbuilding industry. By 2025, China’s shipbuilding sector continues to lead the world in three major indicators, maintaining its position as the global leader for 16 consecutive years.

The latest data shows that China’s shipbuilding completions reached 53.69 million deadweight tons in 2025, marking an 11.4% year-on-year increase and accounting for 56.1% of the global market total. New orders reached 107.82 million deadweight tons, accounting for 69% of the global market total. By the end of December, the order backlog stood at 274.42 million deadweight tons, a 31.5% increase year-on-year, representing 66.8% of the global market total. The order backlog has once again hit a record high.

Not only will China continue to lead the world in the three major shipbuilding indicators, but by 2025, the international competitiveness of China’s backbone shipbuilding enterprises will continue to increase, with six enterprises ranking among the top 10 in the world in terms of shipbuilding completion volume, new orders and order backlog.

New orders for 16 out of 18 major vessel types ranked first globally. Multiple world-class green and intelligent vessels were delivered, marking significant breakthroughs in high-end transformation and achieving notable progress in the industry’s high-quality development.
