On January 30, Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd. (CIMC SOE) held a steel-cutting ceremony for a 20,000 m³ LNG carrier and bunkering vessel constructed for Somtralux SA.

The ceremony was witnessed by Yves Pauwels, General Manager of the shipowner Somtralux SA; Marian Alexandru, Site Manager of the supervision company EXMAR; DNV representatives Zhan Dongliang and Li Jun; Wen Zhengqing, Head of the Ship Market Department; Shen Jiaming, Deputy Head of the Ship Market Department; and members of the company’s project team.
This 20,000 m³ LNG carrier and bunkering vessel measures 160 meters in length overall and 25 meters in beam, with a design speed of 15.5 knots, making it one of the primary vessel types for global LNG transportation and bunkering. The vessel is equipped with WINGD dual-fuel main engines featuring iCER technology and can be retrofitted with a high-voltage shore power system. This significantly reduces pollution and greenhouse gas emissions throughout the ship’s lifecycle, effectively addressing the increasingly stringent environmental demands within the global shipping industry.
CIMC SOE stated that as a global leader in the small-to-medium-sized liquefied gas carrier sector, CIMC SOE continues to focus on the R&D and construction of green vessels and clean energy equipment. The successful commencement of this 20,000 m³ LNG carrier and bunkering vessel further solidifies the company’s position in the global gas carrier market.
