Mawei Shipbuilding Delivers Converted Methanol Bunkering Vessel

On January 24, the “Jianhang Lida” vessel, which was refitted by the Repair Division of Mawei Shipbuilding under Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group (Fujian Shipbuilding), was officially delivered. The successful conversion of the vessel from a chemical tanker into a modern methanol bunkering vessel marks a significant advancement for Fujian Shipbuilding in the field of green ship conversion.

The commissioning of the Jianhang Lida vessel will directly serve methanol-powered vessels docking at domestic ports, effectively addressing the regional shortage of bunkering services.

This vessel refit was carried out in strict compliance with the rules of China Classification Society (CCS) and relevant international norms, with a core focus on the primary bunkering function and inherent safety. The Repair Division of Mawei Shipbuilding has systematically implemented the installation and integration of key systems including inert gas, methanol bunkering, heavy lifting and vessel-wide monitoring, with specific measures as follows: a dedicated nitrogen generation and inerting system has been added to provide reliable explosion-proof protection for fuel storage and transportation; a 40-ton dedicated crane has been installed and mooring equipment upgraded to improve operational efficiency and berthing stability; meanwhile, the automated control and monitoring system has been further optimized and enhanced.

Following the completion of conversions, the vessel successfully passed inclining tests and comprehensive third-party inspections, with both stability and engineering quality verified. Achieving a 100% pass rate, these tests ensured operational safety and compliance.

The successful completion of this retrofit not only demonstrates the Repair Division of Mawei Shipbuilding’s mature technical capabilities and project management expertise in the field of new energy vessel retrofitting, but also provides a reference retrofit solution for domestic peers. This achievement is expected to drive collaborative development across the industrial chain and help China establish a competitive edge in the green shipping support sector.
