On January 20, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced that it has signed contracts with an Oceania-based shipowner for the construction of two crude oil carriers and two product tankers, with the total order value amounting to 481.6 billion won.

The crude oil carriers have a deadweight tonnage of 157,000 tons, while the product tankers have a deadweight tonnage of 115,000 tons. All vessels in this newbuilding order are being constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and are scheduled for delivery to the shipowner by the first half of 2029.
Including the latest order, HD KSOE has secured a total of nine new ship orders worth $1.49 billion this year, achieving approximately 6.4% of its annual order target of $23.31 billion.
By vessel type, it includes four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, one liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)/ammonia carrier, two crude oil tankers and two product tankers.
It is noteworthy that all nine new vessels contracted by HD KSOE so far in 2026 have been built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Four LNG carriers jointly ordered by Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Norway’s Ocean Yield represent the first LNG carrier orders for 2026. The new vessels will have a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters. An LPG/ammonia carrier with a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters has been ordered by Turkish shipowner Aygaz.
