Imabari Shipbuilding Delivers 7,000 CEU LNG Dual-Fuel PCTC “UNDINE HIGHWAY”

On January 14, Imabari Shipbuilding delivered the 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) Undine Highway, which was ordered by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (KS).

The “UNDINE HIGHWAY” is 199.93 meters long, 38 meters wide, and 38.76 meters deep. It has a deadweight of 18,652 tons and a gross tonnage of 77,650. It is equipped with a 6S60ME-C10.5-GI main engine and has a speed of approximately 18.25 knots. It is classed by Japan Classification Society (NK) and flies the Panamanian flag.

Imabari Shipbuilding stated that compared to traditional heavy oil-fueled PCTCs, the “UNDINE HIGHWAY” can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 25-30%, produce almost no sulfur oxide emissions, and reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 80-90% through the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.

The LNG fuel tanks aboard the “UNDINE HIGHWAY” continuously produce boiling-off gas (BOG). This gas can be utilized to power generators and boilers, thereby enhancing environmental sustainability.

Additionally, the UNDINE HIGHWAY features a bulkhead-free design with straightened, widened ramps that simplify vehicle routing, enhancing safety and loading/unloading efficiency. Its vertically adjustable deck height accommodates not only passenger cars but also trucks, trailers, and other large freight vehicles.

In addition to the dual-fuel PCTC, Imabari Shipbuilding delivered four bulk carriers in 2026: the 40,000 DWT vessels NORSE KAMIJIMA, CENTURION JULIA and SANNOMINE, along with the 64,000 DWT bulk carrier BELFOX.
