Recently, Beihai Shipbuilding announced the signing of a contract with a Greek shipowner for one 161,800 DWT Suezmax oil tanker. According to Greek shipping brokerage sources, the order is associated with New Shipping, a private shipping company owned by renowned Greek shipowner Adam Polemis. The construction cost remains undisclosed, with delivery expected in the second half of 2029.

The new vessel adopts the “Morning Star” series liquid cargo ship design independently developed by Beihai Shipbuilding. With an overall length of 274.3 meters, a beam of 50 meters, and a deadweight tonnage of 161,800 tons, this conventionally fueled ship meets the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emission standards and the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III requirements.
To date, Beihai Shipbuilding has secured orders for three Suezmax tankers, marking the company’s full-scale entry into the construction of Suezmax crude carrier market. Two vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2025 and one in 2026. Shipbrokers and market sources indicate that all three Suezmax tankers secured by Beihai Shipbuilding are linked to New Shipping.
Shipping databases indicate that New Shipping currently operates a fleet of over 25 vessels, including oil tankers and bulk carriers, and is steadily expanding its market presence in the Suezmax tanker sector.
Last year, New Shipping placed an order with Samsung Heavy Industries for 2+2 Suezmax tankers, each costing approximately $82 million. Notably, the construction of up to four tankers in this batch has been subcontracted to HSG Sungdong Shipbuilding, a mid-sized South Korean shipyard.
