On January 9, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Beihai Shipbuilding, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), successfully signed a contract with Seacon Shipping Group Holdings Limited for the construction of two 210,000 DWT bulk carriers.

This 210,000 DWT bulk carrier is the fifth-generation vessel in the “Polaris” series independently designed by Beihai Shipbuilding. The vessel measures 300.00 meters in overall length, 50.00 meters in beam, and 18.50 meters in structural draft.
This series of vessel designs features comprehensive hull line optimization, taking into account operational characteristics under both full-load and ballast conditions. Particular emphasis was placed on reducing wave-induced drag in heavy sea conditions, resulting in an overall propulsion efficiency improvement exceeding 6% compared to the previous generation. In terms of environmental design, the vessels meet EEDI III requirements, comply with NOx Tier III emission standards, and are equipped with an EGCS system, achieving dual breakthroughs in both efficiency and environmental performance.
This 210,000 DWT bulk carrier, as Beihai Shipbuilding’s flagship vessel type, has long secured its position in the global market through its robust capabilities. The shipyard consistently leads the world in orders for this vessel type, maintaining a commanding market share.
Currently, Beihai Shipbuilding has achieved full coverage of green power configurations such as ammonia dual-fuel, LNG dual-fuel, and methanol dual-fuel. The order backlog of new energy green and environmentally friendly vessel types such as ammonia dual-fuel, LNG dual-fuel, and methanol dual-fuel accounts for more than 90%, which perfectly matches the global shipping industry’s low-carbon transformation trend and fully demonstrates Beihai Shipbuilding’s leading position in the field of green shipping technology.
Beihai Shipbuilding stated that the signing of this contract is not only a breakthrough in cooperation with new customers, but also officially launches the order-acquisition model of “scale expansion + customer development” for its core-built vessel types. It will inject new impetus into the subsequent market expansion and customer development of core-built vessel types, and continuously consolidate the company’s leading position in the global large bulk carrier market.
This marks the third order secured by Beihai Shipbuilding in 2026. On January 5, Beihai Shipbuilding signed a contract with Greek shipowner Cape Shipping for the construction of 1+1 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). On January 7, Beihai Shipbuilding signed another contract with the Greek shipowner for the construction of one Suezmax crude oil carrier, further expanding its portfolio of new vessel types.
