GSI Conducts Sea Trials for 7 Vessels in December 2025, Showcasing Strong Parallel Construction Capability

In December 2025, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) conducted sea trials for seven new vessels, including MR tankers, LRII tankers, luxury ro-pax vessel, and car carriers with capacities of 8,600 and 7,000 vehicles, demonstrating GSI’s strong capabilities in the parallel construction of complex vessel types.

The first vessel is the second 50,000 DWT methanol dual-fuel chemical/product tanker built by GSI for Vietnam’s Asia Pacific Shipping (ASP). This vessel represents GSI’s 15th generation of independently developed MR product tankers, featuring shaft generators and a methanol dual-fuel propulsion system. It meets IMO Tier III emission standards and achieves Phase 3 compliance for the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).

The second vessel is MSC/GNV’s fourth luxury ro-pax vessel. The GSI project team established a specialized task force to tackle technical challenges on an hourly basis and implement closed-loop corrective actions. Key systems including main propulsion and air conditioning achieved the shortest commissioning records in the series, realizing dual reductions in docking and sea trial cycles. This demonstrated remarkable lean management outcomes, establishing a new paradigm for constructing complex vessel types.

The third vessel is HMM’s 8,600 CEU PCTC No. 6. The vessel achieved a record-breaking level of integrity upon launching, completing sea trials six days ahead of schedule. This marks a comprehensive breakthrough in both sea trial performance and overall construction cycle. Its “rapid response, precise delivery” model will provide a replicable benchmark for similar products.

The fourth vessel is the 7,000 CEU PCTC No.3 built for Guangzhou Yuanhai Automobile Shipping Co., Ltd. After launching, it was efficiently transferred to the sea trial phase in the shortest cycle among its sister vessels. Moreover, multiple sea trial tests were completed during the docking period. With the practice of prioritizing both speed and safety, it has laid a solid foundation for the efficient completion of sea trial tasks.

The 5th, 6th and 7th vessels are the 50,000 DWT Methanol Dual-Fuel Vessel No.4 for Hafnia, the 110,000 DWT LNG Dual-Fuel Vessel No.1 for Chandris, and the 50,000 DWT Vessel No.2 for Zhejiang Shipping respectively.Tanker construction is GSI’s core competency. The company holds the highest number of delivery records and boasts the most comprehensive product portfolio in this market. By continuously optimizing construction processes, it has achieved steady improvements in production efficiency, with its vessel products demonstrating stable and reliable performance.Among these three vessels, the 50,000 DWT Methanol Dual-Fuel Vessel No.4 for Hafnia set sail for sea trials on December 31 and will spend the New Year’s holiday at sea.
