NACKS Launches Third 24,168 TEU Methanol-Dual-Fuel Boxship for OOCL

On August 18, following the successful delivery on June 25 of the “OOCL Wisdom”—the world’s first 24,168 TEU methanol-dual-fuel container ship—Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) successfully launched the third vessel in the same series, custom-built for Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL), once again setting a new benchmark for the pace of mass production of high-end green vessels.

This vessel represents the world’s largest class of methanol-dual-fuel container ships to date and serves as a flagship of high-end, eco-friendly ocean-going vessels independently developed and built by NACKS. With a total length of 399.99 meters, a beam of 61.3 meters, and a draft of 33.2 meters, the vessel’s deck area is approximately equivalent to 3.5 standard soccer fields. Its deadweight tonnage reaches 225,000 DWT, making it the world’s largest vessel of its kind in terms of overall size and carrying capacity, with industry-leading comprehensive performance.

In terms of propulsion and environmental protection, this series of vessels is equipped with the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel propulsion system, featuring ultra-high-power methanol dual-fuel main engines, auxiliary engines, and boilers, as well as large dedicated methanol storage tanks. This enables seamless switching between methanol and conventional fuel modes, allowing for flexible adaptation to various shipping conditions.

When operating on green methanol fuel, these vessels can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 150,000 tons annually, achieve near-zero sulfur oxide emissions, and significantly lower nitrogen oxide emissions. They fully comply with the International Maritime Organization’s most stringent environmental regulations, providing a mature, high-quality Chinese shipbuilding solution to support the global shipping industry’s transition to low-carbon operations and green emissions reduction.
