Nam Cheong Sells “SK Prime” PSV to PetroVietnam Unit for US$20.5M in Fleet Optimization Move

Malaysian shipbuilder Nam Cheong has reached an agreement with PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), a subsidiary of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), to sell the 4,000 DWT platform supply vessel (PSV) “SK Prime” for US$20.5 million.

According to the data, the “SK Prime” was built in 2016, with a total length of 78 meters, a width of 18.6 meters, a draft of 6.4 meters, a deadweight of 4151 tons, a deck area of 800 square meters, a capacity for 60 people, and is equipped with a DP2 dynamic positioning system.

Nam Cheong stated that the sale of this vessel is part of the group’s fleet optimization plan, allowing them to dispose of relatively older vessels at a reasonable price at an opportune time, while also efficiently recovering capital to support the group’s shipbuilding business.

According to its official website, Nam Cheong is a global maritime group headquartered in Sarawak, Malaysia, specializing in the construction and leasing of offshore support vessels (OSVs). Founded in 1968 as a fishing vessel builder, Nam Cheong has grown to become Malaysia’s largest OSV contractor. It owns and operates Malaysia’s largest dedicated OSV shipyard and was listed on the Main Board of the Singapore Exchange on May 27, 2011.

Since 2007, Nam Cheong has delivered over 140 vessels, including Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels, Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs), Accommodation Workboats, and Accommodation Work Barges. Beyond constructing offshore vessels, the group currently operates a chartered fleet of over 30 vessels with an average age of 8 years. These vessels primarily serve the offshore oil and gas exploration, development, and oilfield services industries, with clients spanning Malaysia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, West Africa, Latin America, Europe and the United States.
