According to a report from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), a major fire broke out on December 23 at a ship repair shop called Borskaya Ship Repair Company. The fire was caused by a fuel leak from a crane vessel (whose specific name was not disclosed). The ship repair shop is located in Nizhny Novgorod, western Russia.

According to photos released by MES, firefighters suppressed the fuel fire and extinguished it by spraying large amounts of foam on key areas. The burned area was approximately 1,000 square feet (about 93 square meters).
Borskaya Ship is a commercial shipyard specializing in the maintenance of river-sea combined transport vessels. At the time of the incident, it was preparing to conduct routine operations. According to local reports, witnesses stated that an explosion occurred prior to the fire.

Local authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of the damage to the crane vessel and shipyard infrastructure involved in the incident.
