China’s Hudong Heavy Machinery Powers Maritime Green Shift, Testing Five Clean-Fuel Engines in World First

Recently, Hudong Heavy Machinery, a subsidiary of CSSC Power (Group) Corporation Ltd. (CPGC), not only successfully completed its annual production targets but also achieved a landmark breakthrough in marine low-speed dual-fuel engine technology—a critical area for the future green transformation of the shipping industry. The company simultaneously assembled and tested main engines powered by five different clean fuels: LNG, LPG, ethane, methanol and ammonia.

Faced with the urgent need for global shipping emissions reduction, Hudong Heavy Machinery adheres to technological self-reliance and places the research and development of dual-fuel power at the core of its strategy. This year, Hudong Heavy Machinery successfully completed the development of three new dual-fuel main engines, providing the market with richer and more advanced low-carbon solutions.

Particularly noteworthy is that in December, five different clean fuel main engines—LNG, LPG, ethane, methanol, and ammonia—were simultaneously assembled and tested on Hudong Heavy Machinery’s assembly and test platform. This milestone demonstrates the company’s comprehensive R&D capabilities spanning mainstream and future potential clean fuel propulsion systems, laying a solid foundation for diversified, low-carbon development in marine propulsion.

The fundamental reason for these achievements lies in CPGC’s in-depth implementation of lean management principles. Hudong Heavy Machinery, by strengthening top-level design, optimizing resource allocation, and implementing meticulous process control, has deeply integrated innovation-driven development and high-quality development requirements into every aspect of production. The thorough implementation of lean management has not only ensured the efficient parallel operation and quality control of various complex mainframe projects, but also rapidly transformed innovative ideas into real productivity.

In the future, Hudong Heavy Machinery will leverage continuous technological innovation and robust industrial capabilities to provide customers with more competitive green power solutions, contributing to the global shipping industry’s transition toward green and low-carbon operations.
