On December 24, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced it has secured a contract to build five chemical tankers for an African shipowner.

The order is valued at 375 billion won (approximately $256 million), with each vessel costing about $51.2 million. The newbuilds will be constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and are scheduled for delivery by the second half of 2028.
This marks the second order announced by HD KSOE within a week. On the 19th, the company announced a contract with Greece’s Capital for four medium-sized container ships, valued at approximately $466.2 million. The vessels will be constructed by its subsidiary HD Hyundai Samho and are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2028.
With the announcement of its latest orders, HD KSOE has secured orders for 127 new vessels worth approximately $17.58 billion (about 25.7 trillion won) so far this year, achieving 97.4% of its annual order target of $18.05 billion.
By vessel type, this includes 7 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 6 LNG bunkering vessels, 11 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)/ammonia carriers, 2 ethane carriers, 75 container ships, 18 oil tankers, and 8 chemical tankers.
