Sumec Marine Inks Contract with Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping for Two 1,100-TEU Container Vessels

On December 23, Sumec Marine held a signing ceremony in Shanghai for the construction contract of two 1,100-TEU container ships with Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Shanghai Haihua Shipping.

This collaboration is a natural result of the strategic alignment between the two parties and a practical step for Sumec Marine to deepen benchmark cooperation and solidify its market position in the feeder container ship sector. In the future, the two parties will work together to write a new chapter in the coordinated development of the shipping industry.

It is reported that this marks the second collaboration between the two parties in the past three months. On September 29, Sumec Marine and Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping signed a contract in Nanjing for the construction of 2+2 1,100 TEU container ships.

This 1,100-TEU energy-efficient container ship has an overall length of 147.90 meters, a beam of 23.25 meters, a design draft of 7.30 meters, and a cargo capacity of 1,182 TEUs, including 145 FEU of refrigerated container capacity. The vessel is classed by the China Classification Society (CCS) and registered in Hong Kong, China.

With over three decades of focused operation on Northeast and Southeast Asian shipping routes, Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping has secured the top market share for shipping services from Shanghai to Japan by virtue of its premium service characterized by high schedule reliability and comprehensive route network. Moreover, its strategic deployment of Southeast Asia as the “second growth engine” is highly aligned with the trade development momentum of the region.
