On December 17, the Tongjun, a 35,000m³ class ultra-large cutter suction dredger built by Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC) for CCCC Tianjin Dredging Bureau, set sail from Zhenhua Offshore Engineering Base, officially embarking on a new voyage to serve national marine engineering projects.

This dredger, which integrates dredging and reclamation functions, signifies China’s entry into the world’s advanced ranks in the dredger market. It injects strong momentum into deep-sea development, channel upgrades, and coastal infrastructure projects.
The Tongjun is China’s independently developed new-generation ultra-large intelligent dredging vessel, measuring 198 meters in length, 38.5 meters in beam and 18 meters in depth. With a maximum dredging depth of 120 meters and a mud hold capacity equivalent to 18 standard swimming pools, it ranks first in Asia.
This vessel integrates a suite of core technologies including the one-click dredging system, integrated dredging-navigation-survey system, “one-drive-two” hybrid power system and intelligent energy efficiency management system. It also features a reserved methanol dual-fuel power system, and boasts advantages such as high-efficiency dredging, precise slurry transportation and deep-water operation capabilities.
As a benchmark product filling the technological gap in China’s 35,000m³ and above dredger capacity class, the Tongjun dredger can be widely applied in port and waterway dredging, land reclamation, coastal protection, deep-sea sand extraction, and deep-sea trench excavation and backfilling. It provides core equipment support for China’s maritime power development and Belt and Road Initiative projects, significantly enhancing the international competitiveness of China’s dredging equipment.
