DSIC’s First Methanol Dual-Fuel 15,000 TEU Ship Begins Final Sea Testing

On December 15, the first methanol dual-fuel 15,000 TEU container ship—built by CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC)—kicked off its methanol fuel sea trials.

This sea trial serves as a decisive phase prior to vessel delivery, with its core focus on validating the advanced methanol dual-fuel propulsion system. Key testing priorities include seamless fuel mode switching and the safe and smooth transition of the main engine between conventional fuel oil (MGO) and clean methanol fuel. In-depth methanol mode testing will be conducted during the sea trial, covering main engine start-up, load increases and decreases, endurance operation, and performance evaluation of the associated exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, comprehensively verifying the reliability and economy of this “green heart”.

This ship is a model of a new generation of environmentally friendly container ships. Its successful construction and sea trial mark another major breakthrough in China in the field of high-tech, high-value-added green ships. This sea trial will be a spectacular debut before its official entry into international green shipping.
