China’s Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding Wins Greek Order for Eco-Friendly Chemical Tankers

On November 26, Chinese shipbuilder Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding formally signed a contract with Greek shipowner Super-Eco Tankers Management for the construction of 2+1+1 41,000 DWT oil/chemical tankers. This marks international recognition of the shipbuilder’s competitiveness in the high-end oil/chemical tanker sector.

The vessels signed this time are built based on the “Super-Eco” concept. This vessel type has an overall length of approximately 180 meters, a beam of 32 meters, and a structural draft of 11 meters.

With a structural draft and full load displacement of 40,800 metric tons, its total cargo hold capacity (including slop tanks) reaches 48,500 cubic meters. The vessel is compatible for both oil and chemical transportation, aligns with international low-carbon shipping standards, and flexibly accommodates diverse transport requirements, achieving dual excellence in operational economy and environmental performance.

Greece is a global shipping hub, and Super-Eco Tankers, a high-quality shipowner in the region focused on green and energy-efficient vessel operations, has chosen the flexible “2+1+1” cooperation model. This decision reflects high recognition of Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding’s construction techniques, quality control and delivery capabilities.

Moving forward, Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding will establish a dedicated task force to advance project design and construction phases in strict accordance with contractual agreements and technical standards, ensuring high-quality vessel delivery through a commitment to craftsmanship.

This marks the second oil tanker order announced by Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding this year. In August, Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding secured an option order for four 50,000 DWT oil tankers from shipowner MC GROUP LIMITED, with a total construction cost exceeding $200 million.

With the announcement of its latest order for new vessels, Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding has increasingly demonstrated its competitiveness in the new shipbuilding market. Data indicates that since completing its restructuring, the company has successfully entered the global top 30 shipbuilders by new orders secured in the first half of 2025, ranking 13th worldwide.

Data shows that Yangzhou Guoyu Shipyard is located in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It boasts 2.2 kilometers of deep-water shoreline and a factory area of 1.13 million square meters. The facility is equipped with four slipways, a 1,400-meter outfitting pier, and other core infrastructure, with an annual shipbuilding capacity of 2 million deadweight tons, which has been reserved for a 300,000-ton dry dock. The shipbuilder focuses on shipbuilding, ship repair, and high-end equipment manufacturing, prioritizing the development of LNG-powered vessels and dual-fuel container vessels while also undertaking bulk carriers, tankers and specialized vessels.
