On November 24, two 82,000 DWT bulk carriers—SYRMA and SARGAS—equipped with Hengli’s engines and built by Hengli Heavy Industries for Wanhui International Holding Group underwent their naming ceremonies. This milestone marks the first application of Hengli’s independently produced marine engines in vessels constructed by Hengli Heavy Industries.

The 82,000 DWT bulk carrier is one of Hengli Heavy Industries’ main ship types. It features “green, environmentally friendly, energy-saving, and safe” characteristics and is the mainstream bulk carrier type in the ocean shipping market. It meets the most stringent emission requirements of the International Maritime Organization, and all performance indicators have reached the international advanced level.

Yang Chuan, Chairman of Wanhui International Holding Group, stated: “This marks Wanhui Shipping’s first foray into the Kamsarmax newbuilding sector, making us the first user of the independently developed marine main engine by Hengli Heavy Industries. Guided by Hengli Group’s philosophy of ‘either not doing it, or doing it to the best,’ this 82,000 DWT vessel has been successfully delivered. It not only boasts the shipping advantages of large capacity and high stability but also fully aligns with the trend of green shipping.”
“The successful delivery and naming of these two vessels is not only a crucial step in expanding our bulk cargo transportation footprint and enhancing our market competitiveness, but also a new starting point for deepening multi-party cooperation and jointly drawing up a blueprint for the shipping industry. We hope to take this delivery as an opportunity to join hands with Hengli Group and all our partners to forge ahead and jointly write a more brilliant chapter in the history of China’s shipbuilding and shipping industry.”
Chen Hanlun, Director and General Manager of Songfa Group, said: “This year marks the third anniversary of Hengli Heavy Industries. Over the past three years, Hengli Heavy Industries has overcome difficulties and transformed a shipyard that had been abandoned for ten years into a world-class shipbuilding base. We have gone through an unforgettable development process and built a complete industrial chain from core components to complete ship construction. We have gained high recognition from international shipping giants and top shipowners. We look forward to building more and better green and high-end ship types in the green transformation and upgrading of the global shipbuilding industry, and making greater contributions to the construction of our nation’s maritime power.”

It is understood that since the start of construction, Hengli Heavy Industries has adhered to the principle of “one vessel, one project; one vessel, one masterpiece,” implementing high-quality management and high-standard construction to ensure the successful completion and on-schedule delivery of the vessel. Equipped with Hengli’s self-developed marine engines, the vessel perfectly aligns with the green and low-carbon development trend of the shipping industry through the engines’ outstanding quality, breaking the industry bottleneck of “vessels waiting for engines” in shipbuilding.
Notably, while the new shipbuilding and marine engine markets continue to advance steadily, Hengli Heavy Industries’ capacity expansion project is nearing completion.
Recently, the 600-ton No. 2 gantry crane of the Hengli Heavy Industries project, constructed by Nantong Zhenhua Heavy Equipment Manufacturing, successfully completed its load test under the joint witness of the owner and the Special Equipment Inspection Institute. With this milestone, load testing for all six gantry cranes in the project has been successfully concluded, marking the official entry into the final delivery phase.
It is understood that the Hengli Heavy Industries’ gantry crane project comprises six units, independently designed and constructed by Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC). This project includes four 2,000-ton gantry cranes and two 600-ton gantry cranes. With the six gantry crane projects entering the final stages of delivery, they will effectively boost Hengli Heavy Industries’ production capacity.
Looking ahead, Hengli Heavy Industries stated it will continue to focus on high-end, intelligent, and green shipbuilding, striving to establish a world-class shipbuilding base and empower the high-quality development of China’s national industries.
