GSI and CSSC NDRI Join Forces to Boost High-End Shipbuilding Capacity

On October 30, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) and CSSC Ninth Design & Research Institute(CSSC NDRI) signed a contract for the project to enhance high-end ship final assembly capabilities and improve supporting facilities.

It is understood that the project will add a 900-ton gantry crane and its track, upgrade the existing 900-ton gantry crane to a combined lifting system, and add a 150-ton portal crane and its track, as well as harden the corresponding site.

Through this project, GSI aims to comprehensively enhance its high-end shipbuilding capabilities and infrastructure at its final assembly platform, improve production efficiency, and further strengthen its market competitiveness in high-end vessel types such as MR oil tankers.

CSSC NDRI stated that this collaboration will not only enhance GSI’s final assembly capabilities but also strengthen key links of the shipbuilding supply chain, laying a solid “hardware foundation” for China’s independent development of large vessels. Leveraging this project as an opportunity, CSSC NDRI will transform its accumulated technological advantages and management expertise into tangible construction achievements, striving to complete the construction tasks with high quality and efficiency to support GSI in achieving a leap in high-end shipbuilding capacity.

GSI stated that CSSC NDRI serves as the national flagship team for engineering design and consulting within China’s shipbuilding industry system, with the planning and construction of most major shipyards nationwide incorporating the expertise of the Ninth Design Institute. The collaboration between CSSC NDRI and GSI is founded on highly complementary strengths and aligned strategic objectives, which will propel GSI toward advancement in high-end, green, and intelligent development.

The signing of this contract and commencement of the project mark a crucial step forward for GSI in its journey to become a world-class shipbuilding enterprise, further enhancing GSI’s overall competitiveness in the global high-end shipbuilding market.
